Pool deck nomenclature (what we pool deck contractors call stuff) can get confusing. And everyone seems to have their own words and definitions to describe that cracked, chipped, faded, outdated, hot-as-heck surface that surrounds their swimming pool.
So there’s two objectives for this page: one, clear some of that up; two, show off our pool deck resurfacing and repair work we’re so incredibly proud of.
I’ll start with our most popular surface, acrylic. Because of the versatility, durability and affordability, many of our residential and commercial clients go with acrylic.
With acrylic, you can tweak the color, texture and pattern so that it looks great next to any home (hotel, water park, splash pad, hot tub, apartment complex, rec center, patio, etc.) no matter the landscaping.
And it also holds up like a champ to heavy traffic and that scorching Phoenix sun.
Whatcha need to know, though, is that it looks just like kool deck. The average person who sees acrylic decking would prob’ly call it cool deck.
It’s not. Cool deck is old school. It’s outdated and a lot of people don’t realize that it’s not compatible with saltwater pools.
So if you built a swimming pool that uses salt to make chlorine… or added a salt water chlorinator (also called a “cell”) after the fact? That salt will go straight-up Pac-Man on traditional cool deck. Ungood. Very ungood.
Okay. Now that you’re all good and learned about acrylic – our most popular pool deck coating – what else is there?
There’s concrete, brick pavers, travertine, cantera and marbella stone.
We’ve done all the above, beautifully.
Sometimes, people will mix and match surfaces, too. For example, you could do a brick paver walkway that leads to an acrylic lace pool deck, with a thin cantera stone border… just to make it pop.
Let’s look at some pictures of our repair and resurface work so you can actually see what I’m talking about. I’ll include some walkways, patios, driveways and fire pits as well. (Our specialty is pool decks, but we’re happy to handle any resurfacing job, pool or no pool.)
